SUMMARY:Food drive for SNAP relief
DESCRIPTION:Drop off food inside the LJCC lobby Monday through Thursday this week (Nov. 3-6)\, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.\n\nWorking together to address impending SNAP shortfall\nUp to 23\,000 Birmingham households could suffer if SNAP* benefits end this weekend due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.  \nThe Levite JCC — in collaboration with the Birmingham Jewish Federation and Foundation\, CJFS\, Temple Beth-El\, Temple Emanu-El\, the Alabama Holocaust Education Center\, the N.E. Miles Jewish Day School\, Chabad of Alabama\, and Knesseth Israel — is working with the city governments of Mountain Brook and Birmingham and United Way of Central Alabama to help alleviate the situation. \nThis effort is largely inspired by the Jewish tradition of tikkun olam — commonly translated as repairing the world. Accordingly\, the LJCC will serve as a collection point for financial and food donations starting Monday. \nHere’s what you can do: \n\nDrop off food donations inside our lobby Monday-Thursday (Nov. 6)\, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. (scroll down on this page to see the list of accepted items along with other drop-off points that might be more convenient for you)\nMake a financial donation \n\nOur thanks in advance for however you can help. \nWith gratitude\, \nBrooke Bowles\nLJCC CEO \n\n*Access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly known as Food Stamps) will end nationwide on November 1. More than 12 percent of Americans benefit from the program. \nLearn more about citywide efforts at BHAM Ready.
