To Our Levite Jewish Community Center Members:
As you likely are aware, Gov. Ivey’s amendments to the “Safer At Home” order has allowed fitness facilities to reopen as of Monday, May 11.
The Levite Jewish Community Center, along with the YMCA through a joint partnership, have decided to reopen our facilities on Monday, June 1, so long as state guidelines do not change before then. The safety and wellbeing of our members and staff are our priority.
Reopening on June 1 will allow us to train staff to adhere to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and reorganize our operations so that we can effectively serve you in this “new normal.” By delaying reopening, we also have the opportunity to see how COVID-19 continues to affect our community.
Both the LJCC and YMCA are committed to public health. In order for our organizations to maintain that commitment, our staff must be trained appropriately and our operations altered to accommodate new guidelines and recommendations. (To learn more about what this looks like for the LJCC, please reference the infographics below or click here to read more.)
Our “Responsible Reopening” plan has been reviewed by a number of epidemiologists and we are continuing to fine tune how the J will be operating as new guidance from public health officials emerges.
We take comfort in the fact that we are not alone in this journey; the YMCA is making the same efforts we are and it is wonderful to have a partner in these very complicated, daunting and difficult times. We also know that other facilities are having to follow the same guidelines we are.
These times can feel isolating and lonely, which makes having a community to rely on even more important. We’ll be ready to see you in-person on June 1 — when our entire facility opens, including the fitness center and indoor & outdoor pools — but we will continue our virtual efforts so you can have that community no matter where you are or if you feel safer staying at home.
We have had significant interest in membership moving into the summer, which is likely due to our wonderful outdoor pool. However, in order to ensure that our current members — who have supported us throughout this process — are able to have access to the facility when we reopen, we are not accepting any new J-Classic, J-Plus or J-Elite memberships at this time. This is unprecedented for our LJCC and we hope that you can understand why we have made this decision.
Please be on the look out in your email for more information on how to sign up for use of the facility.
Stay well and we’ll see you soon!
