On May 14 we made “the switch” by closing out the somber observance of Yom HaZikaron | Remembrance Day for Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism and then moments later beginning celebrations to commemorate Yom Ha’atzmaut | Independence Day (read more about these special days).
The evening’s festivities included a rendition of Israel’s national anthem, Hatikvah, by students from the N.E. Miles Jewish Day School. Guests then enjoyed freshly made Israeli food plus a wide selection of street-market treats provided by “Box From Jerusalem,” an Israeli business owned by Chen and Alon Koren. The couple, who were present during the event, uses Box to convey the tastes of the well-known Mahane Yehuda shuk | market through authentic foods combined with their personal stories.
The Tikvatenu program was proudly supported by the Israel Engagement Fund: JCC Association of North America Program Accelerator and the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, and the Birmingham Jewish Federation.
