GROWING STRONGER TOGETHER AT THE J
Since 1906, what we know today as the Levite Jewish Community Center has brought people together to create bonds, meet goals, and share experiences. We’re still growing stronger together as we continue on our mission that’s rooted in the Jewish values of creating, serving, and enhancing community.
Take a look at what we’ve been up to!
We’re growing our diverse community together:
- Need-based fee waivers so that no preschool student, camp participant, or member is unable to access The J’s offerings.
- Specially designed activities for our members and Veterans Affairs partners with disabilities.
- Programs that reach more than 150 underserved youth including swim lessons and community theater.
We’re growing our broader community together:
- More than 150 people attended our “Fighting for Their Lives” educational seminar that spelled out the challenges facing transgenered youth and the state of their care in Alabama.
- Some 200 area business leaders attended our seminar that discussed the rise in antisemitism.
- In the wake of the horrific October 7 attack on Israel, we created a community “living room” where many devastated by the attack found comfort through togetherness.
- Along with partner organizations, we hosted a solidarity gathering in support of the victims of the October 7 attack and their families.
- Our annual Jewish Food and Culture Fest brought more than 2,000 people to our campus this spring for great food, music, and company.
And of course we’re growing our members together
In addition to our myriad fitness and recreational offerings, let’s not forget our knitting group — a social club that crafts hats and scarves for young cancer patients, and that we offer mahjong, bridge, and senior adult fitness classes to our older members. And our Thursday Family Fun Night pool parties are weekly summer highlights for many families.
We’re thrilled with how we’re Growing Stronger Together at The J. With your help, we look forward to growing even more.
