Working together to address impending SNAP shortfall

Up to 23,000 Birmingham households could suffer if SNAP* benefits end this weekend due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.

The Levite JCC — in collaboration with the Birmingham Jewish Federation and Foundation, CJFS, Temple Beth-El, Temple Emanu-El, the Alabama Holocaust Education Center, the N.E. Miles Jewish Day School, Chabad of Alabama, and Knesseth Israel — is working with the city governments of Mountain Brook and Birmingham and United Way of Central Alabama to help alleviate the situation.

This effort is largely inspired by the Jewish tradition of tikkun olam — commonly translated as repairing the world. Accordingly, the LJCC will serve as a collection point for financial and food donations starting Monday.

Here’s what you can do:

Our thanks in advance for however you can help.

With gratitude,

Brooke Bowles
LJCC CEO
