Are group fitness classes included with membership?

Yes! Most Group Fitness classes are included with your Levite JCC membership at no additional cost. Some specialty programs may require separate registration or fees.

Check out our current list of classes and class schedule and find a class that’s right for you.

Which classes are best for beginners?

Many of our classes are beginner-friendly. Strength, flexibility, balance, yoga, and low-impact cardio classes are often great places to start. Our instructors are happy to help you feel comfortable and confident.

Not sure where to begin? Contact Fitness Director Camari Princewill at camarip@bhamjcc.org or 205-332-3701 for recommendations.

Can I visit a class before trying it out to see if I would like to attend?

As a member, you are welcome to visit any class to see how it is conducted. Non-members must pay a drop-in fee of $10 to attend any class.

Do you have to be a member to attend fitness classes?

No, but it’s best for you to be a member to receive all the membership benefits. There is a drop-in fee of $10 for non-members.

Am I allowed to attend fitness classes if I’m sick?

You are welcome to attend classes if you are sick, but it’s based on the type of illness (ex. common cold, allergy/sinus issues). If you have an illness that is contagious, we ask that you not attend classes to keep everyone safe and healthy.

What if there are fitness classes that I would like to take, but you don’t offer them?

Please let us know what types of classes you would love to see offered and we will consider adding them to our schedule (if we can find an available instructor for the class type).

Do you sanitize gym or fitness equipment?

Yes, we provide towels and sanitizing spray along with wipes for our fitness equipment on the fitness floor and in our group fitness class studios.

What programs are available for older adults?

We offer a variety of programs designed to support healthy aging, including strength training, balance training, mobility-focused classes, and low-impact fitness options that promote independence and overall well-being.

Can teenagers use the Fitness Center?

Yes. Teen access may vary based on age and Levite JCC policies. Some age groups may require orientation, parental consent, and/or supervision. Here’s our current guideline:

Members must be at least age 13 to use equipment and under 16 must be accompanied by a trainer or other adult (18+). Chat with a staff member if you think you’re the exception.

I’m new to exercise. Where should I start?

You’re in the right place. Many of our members begin with little or no fitness experience.

Our recommended starting point is J-Starter Fit, a personalized introductory training package that includes three 30-minute sessions for just $75 (that’s a $105 value). During these sessions you’ll learn how to use the equipment safely, establish a workout routine, and receive guidance tailored to your goals and experience level.

J-Starter Fit is designed to help you build confidence, gain momentum, and start your fitness journey successfully.

How often should I exercise?

Most adults benefit from at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week, along with strength training two to three times weekly. The right plan depends on your goals, fitness level, and lifestyle.

Need guidance? Contact Fitness Director Camari Princewill at camarip@bhamjcc.org or 205-332-3701.

How long does it take to see results?

Results vary from person to person, but many people notice improvements in energy, mood, and confidence within a few weeks. Physical changes such as increased strength and endurance typically develop through consistent effort over time.

Consistency is key and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Can exercise help with weight loss?

Yes. Regular exercise can support weight loss and improve overall health. The best results typically come from combining physical activity, strength training, healthy nutrition, quality sleep, and sustainable habits.

Talk with one of our trainers about creating a personalized plan for your goals.

How do I stay motivated and consistent?

Start with realistic goals, find activities you enjoy, and focus on progress rather than perfection. Many members find that classes, personal training, and community support help them stay accountable and engaged.

The Levite JCC community is here to help you stay motivated on your wellness journey.

Can I exercise if I have an injury or medical condition?

In many cases — yes. Exercise can often be modified to accommodate injuries, chronic conditions, or physical limitations. We recommend consulting your healthcare provider when appropriate and informing our fitness team of any concerns.

Our trainers can help you find safe and effective ways to stay active.
