Host a shlicha this summer
The Levite JCC is excited to welcome a shlicha | Israeli emissary to our community this summer, and we are looking for host families to open their homes during her nine-week stay. Our shlicha is 21 and will be working at J Camp.
We are seeking Jewish families — especially those with children attending J Camp (although all Jewish households with or without children will be considered). Hosting is a meaningful opportunity to build a personal connection with Israel while offering a supportive home base for a young adult experiencing life in our community.
To serve as a host family, you should be able to provide:
Note: Your home does not need to be kosher, and there is no required level of religious observance.
- A private bedroom
- Three meals a day (including lunch for camp)
- While we are hoping to provide the shlicha with a vehicle… if that is not possible, we will need assistance with transportation to and from the Levite JCC and more generally on weekends
Who is a shlicha?
Shlichim | emissaries are young Israelis who, after completing their mandatory military service, choose to spend time working in Jewish communities around the world. Carefully selected and trained by The Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), they bring energy, perspective, and a deep connection to Israeli culture and Jewish life.
Hosting a shlicha has been described as a rich and rewarding experience that can lead to lasting relationships.
Not able to host? You can still help.
Reach out to Director of Special Projects Zoe Weil if you can help with the following:
- If hosting isn’t possible, you can support the program by contributing toward food costs to help ease the financial responsibility for host families.
- We are also seeking access to a car for the shlicha’s use during the summer (insurance will be provided).
