Food Fest fun for kids

  • Balloon artist, face painting, hamsa, Hebrew bracelets
  • Bounce houses
  • Humane Society puppies
  • J Camp Experience
  • Pickle-eating contest

It’s difficult to imagine pulling off this year’s event without the stellar help of a number of young kitchen volunteers. “I really liked folding the hamantashen and how Miss Isa showed me how to do it,” says 10-year-old Eliza Palmer, pictured above.

From creative expression to high-energy play, this year’s Jewish Food and Culture Fest on April 26 has been designed to keep kids engaged, entertained… and maybe just a little bit exhausted by the end of the day.

From pickles to puppies

Throughout the day, families will be able to explore a number of free stations featuring a balloon artist, face painting, and creative projects like hamsa painting and Hebrew bracelet making (hosted by the Birmingham Jewish Federation and Foundation).

For animal lovers, the Humane Society will be on site with dog adoptions — because sometimes the best festival souvenir has four legs and a wagging tail.

And for those who still need to burn off some energy we’ll have free bounce houses (two for kids 5 and under and a separate one in the gym for older children).

Kids and adults can sign up for the pickle-eating contest at noon (participation will be limited; sign up at the event).

Just like camp!

Our free J Camp Experience* adventure inside the gym will include a bounce house, gaga ball at noon, Perler bead crafts at 1 p.m., and classic camp games at 2 p.m.

*All parents (including members and non-members) will need to sign a waiver for their kids to participate in the J Camp Experience. Save some time by filling it out beforehand.
