Join us Monday, October 21, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. for a complimentary lunch in The J’s sukkah — a temporary shelter that’s central to celebrating the joyous holiday of Sukkot.
During the event, Rabbi Yossi Friedman will discuss the significance of the sukkah, the etrog and lulav, and the holiday’s history.
“Of 613 commandments, there’s only one that theoretically can be done by every Jew in the world with the same physical item,” said Rabbi Friedman in a previous story about the holiday. He explained that while one matzah could never feed everyone, for example, one sukkah could in theory shelter everyone.
“The sukkah is supposed to be a gathering place; a uniting place. That’s the theme of the sukkah and in fact of the holiday: the unity of the community, of bringing more people into your sukkah than just your family,” he says.
