All are welcome to attend “Remembrance, Resilience, and Hope,” a program at the Levite Jewish Community Center that will commemorate the one-year anniversary of the horrific tragedy of October 7, 2023. The community-wide event is co-hosted by the Birmingham Jewish Federation alongside all of Birmingham’s Jewish institutions.
The program will start on Monday, October 7, at 6 p.m. While the event is free and open to the public, RSVPs are required.
“This will be an opportunity for the Jewish community and our allies to stand in unity and solidarity with the people of Israel,” says Federation CEO Danny Cohn. “We will mourn those lost in Hamas’s terrorist attacks and the subsequent war, and speak out for the safe return of the remaining hostages.”
The program will include a presentation of reflections, prayers, and poetry related to the past year.
Visual display
An exhibit of photos and words titled “Resilience in the Rubble: Portraits of Strength After Destruction” also will be on display (opening at 5:30 p.m.; note that some of the displayed images will be unsuitable for children). The exhibit is made possible by Jewish Federations of North America and funded by The Birmingham Jewish Federation. It will remain open through October 14.
