Administrative

The marketing and communications director leads the strategic vision, brand governance, and multi-channel marketing execution for the Levite Jewish Community Center. This role drives public awareness, membership acquisition and retention, program enrollment, and donor/event engagement across diverse internal and external audiences.

As the organization’s chief brand steward and lead storyteller, the director will bridge high-level strategy with hands-on creative execution. The marketing and communications director partners with the development director on donor communications, campaigns, fundraising appeals, events, and stewardship. Working in close collaboration with executive leadership and departmental teams (Fitness, Aquatics, Early Childhood, Youth & Camp, Senior Services, and Events), this position will direct compelling digital, print, media, and interpersonal communications that showcase the LJCC’s impact, mission, and vibrant offerings.

Key responsibilities

1. Strategic marketing & membership growth

  • Develop, direct, and execute an annual, multi-channel marketing and communications plan to increase organizational awareness, drive membership growth, boost program registrations, and support major fundraising initiatives.
  • Partner with program managers and directors across the agency to define campaign goals, target key demographics, and deploy customized promotional strategies (e.g., Summer Camp registration, fitness challenges, preschool enrollment, signature events).
  • Champion multi-channel initiatives designed to attract prospective members, deepen engagement, encourage retention and renewals, and communicate member value.
  • Track, evaluate, and report on key performance indicators (website analytics, email conversions, social engagement, ad ROI, lead volume) to guide data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.

2. Multi-channel content creation & digital presence

  • Personally design and produce eye-catching, on-brand graphics, promotional collateral, signage, photography, and short-form video content using modern creative tools.
  • Maintain the LJCC’s social media strategy (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.) through an active editorial calendar, curating authentic day-to-day community stories, managing engagement, and running targeted paid campaigns.
  • Oversee the LJCC website and mobile app — ensuring intuitive navigation, brand alignment, accurate program schedules, SEO optimization, and fresh landing pages for major campaigns.
  • Plan, write, design, and deploy high-converting newsletters, targeted promotional e-blasts, and special agency announcements.

3. Public relations, media & external outreach

  • Cultivate relationships with local news publications, TV/radio outlets, and community partners to pitch stories and secure press coverage.
  • Draft official press releases, media advisories, and executive statements; support leadership with crisis communications and strategic organizational messaging.
  • Manage local community calendar listings, paid print/digital advertising placements, sponsorships, outdoor banners, and targeted direct-mail campaigns.

4. Brand governance & department administration

  • Articulate and safeguard the LJCC brand identity, voice, and quality standards, ensuring rigorous adherence to visual guidelines across all departments, print pieces, and digital touchpoints.
  • Oversee the copywriting, design, proofreading, and production of physical collateral—including program guides, seasonal brochures, facility signage, annual reports, and direct mail—managing print vendor relationships and negotiations.
  • Develop master project schedules, manage the departmental budget, and supervise/mentor creative contributors, contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standard.

Success in this role looks like:

  • Consistent growth in membership leads, program enrollments, and event attendance driven by targeted, strategic campaigns.
  • An active, cohesive, and inspiring digital and physical footprint that authentically reflects community life, inclusivity, and vitality at the LJCC.
  • Department heads feel championed and supported with clear project intake processes, transparent timelines, and effective promotional tools.
  • Professional, polished, and unified messaging across every constituent touchpoint — from prospective members to long-time donors.

Qualifications & competencies

  • 6+ years of progressive professional experience in marketing, communications, public relations, digital content creation, or brand management. Proven experience in a nonprofit, community center, health/recreation facility, or mission-driven organization is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Graphic Design, Journalism, Business, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success operating at both a strategic level (planning, budgeting, campaign architecture) and the tactical level (designing graphics, shooting video, editing copy).
  • Creative & Digital Competency:
    • Advanced proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva).
    • Hands-on experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact).
    • Working proficiency with Content Management Systems (CMS) such as WordPress or Squarespace.
    • Demonstrated skill in Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics (GA4), and digital ad placement.
    • Strong technical skill in photography and short-form video shooting/editing for social platforms.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with meticulous attention to detail, grammar, and brand voice.
  • Superb organizational and time-management skills; comfortable managing multiple concurrent priorities, tight deadlines, and cross-functional teams with the flexibility to pivot seamlessly when plans shift and the composure to deliver high-quality work under pressure with a positive, collaborative attitude.
  • Passion for the power of community to enrich lives, and a deep commitment to the mission and values of the Levite Jewish Community Center. Familiarity with Jewish cultural traditions, observances, and community life — or an enthusiastic willingness to learn — is preferred.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends to capture content, manage media, or support major LJCC events (e.g., Jewish Food and Culture Fest, J’la Gala, Sam Lapidus Montclair Run).

Aquatics

Lifeguards will follow the schedule and help maintain the indoor and outdoor pool so that they’re ready for our members and guests, and assist in enforcing CDC guidelines. Lifeguards are supervised by the head guard and aquatics director.

  • The Levite JCC can certify and recertify for Red Cross lifeguard training

Essential functions

  • Being alert and assessing potentially dangerous situations, including keeping the deck clean and clear of clutter, addressing behavior, and generally monitoring swimmers.
  • Responding to emergency situations quickly and professionally, utilizing lifeguard and rescue procedures to ensure the optimal outcome.
  • Enforce facility policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Assist in keeping chemical records and accident/incident reports.
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required.

Requirements

  • 15 years or older
  • Current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer that has been obtained within the last year.
  • Subject to background check and DHR fingerprinting
  • Ability to see and hear pool patrons in a crowded and noisy environment and communicate with them courteously and effectively.
  • Discreetly handle confidential/sensitive information of members and guests.

The swim instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality swim instruction to individuals of all ages and skill levels. As a benefitted W-2 employee, the instructor will follow established lesson plans, attend required training sessions, and work collaboratively with the pool manager and assistant pool manager to ensure a safe, welcoming, and professional aquatic environment. This role requires strong communication skills, a passion for teaching, and a commitment to safety and customer service.

Requirements (plus prior experience teaching swim lessons preferred):

  • Current certifications in American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI), CPR, and First Aid (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
  • Swim Schools International Instructor Certification, Starfish Swimming Instructor, or other recognized teaching credentials
  • Infant/Toddler-specific certification if teaching infant/baby swim lessons 
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

Responsible for successful instruction of learn-to-swim programming, customer service, emergency response, proper documentation, facility/area upkeep, and assistance as requested by the Aquatics Director.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct group and private swimming lessons
  • Evaluate participant swimming ability and determine correct swim level
  • Create an educational, safe, and inviting experience for participants
  • Be available as needed to discuss the participant’s course evaluation with the parents/guardians and/or participants

Athletics

Principal responsibilities

Be part of a great team of individual helping to create a positive and enjoyable experience.

The Tennis Coach is responsible for teaching private and group lessons, assist with youth tennis programing, court reservations, and assisting with court maintenance. They grow their cliental and personal revenue successfully. They also provide welcoming environment for teaching that encourages repeat business.

This position will aid in maintaining child-to-teacher ratios in our early childhood classrooms and will require tasks associated with childcare and early childhood education.

We are seeking passionate and dedicated substitute preschool teachers to join our educational team as needed. The ideal candidates will be responsible for assisting in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities for preschool-age children in accordance with the policies and philosophies of the Cohn Early Childhood Learning Center and for maintaining a community with children and families.

Part-time, from $15 per hour

Facilities

The maintenance technician is responsible for performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, upkeep, repair, and modification of facility buildings, grounds, and equipment. This role ensures the safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency of all mechanical systems and public areas.

The technician is expected to conduct detailed daily rounds, respond promptly to work orders, and execute scheduled preventive maintenance.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough daily checks of all mechanical rooms at the beginning and end of each shift, documenting readings and ensuring that systems are operating within specifications.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and aquatic equipment. 
  • Inspect and troubleshoot common area deficiencies, prioritizing the replacement of lightbulbs, ceiling tiles, and minor plumbing/fixture repairs. 
  • Inspect all exterior grounds, including the parking lot, fields, and common areas, and remove trash and debris. 
  • Daily inspection and cleaning of all public restrooms. 
  • Housekeeping responsibilities as needed.
  • Set up and breakdown of rental spaces.
  • Receive, prioritize, and complete all assigned work orders in a timely and professional manner. 
  • Respond to and resolve emergency maintenance issues during the shift. 
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities and work orders,
  • Ensure safe working practices and adherence to all facility safety policies.

Qualifications and skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proven experience in facility maintenance, encompassing light plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry.

Fitness

We are seeking a qualified, compassionate, and engaging chair yoga instructor to lead safe, accessible, and inclusive classes for older adults and individuals seeking low-impact movement options. This role is ideal for an instructor who values community connection, mindful movement, and creating a welcoming environment for participants of all abilities.

Chair Yoga instructors at the Levite JCC play an essential role in supporting physical well-being, mobility, balance, and overall quality of life while fostering a sense of belonging and trust among participants.

Part-time at $26.00 per hour

$14/hour

The fitness floor attendant is responsible for member services, performing standard operations, and enforcing policies on the fitness floor. The position supports a positive environment for members, visitors, and colleagues.

The FFA is responsible for providing outstanding customer and fitness service, ensuring the safety and well-being of all members and guests while helping shape a warm and friendly community experience throughout the fitness center, Group Exercise Department, and the entire LJCC.

Essential functions

  • Provide information on general fitness.
  • Be reliable, courteous, and punctual in responses to any and all member inquiries.
  • Organize fitness area.
  • Take a proactive approach to member retention by developing solid relationships and serving each member above and beyond expectations.
  • Address member and staff concerns and suggestions in a timely, professional manner.
  • Ensure equipment is in working order by properly identifying all equipment maintenance issues and reporting and logging any issues.
  • Ensure that fitness areas are clean and set up according to set standards, including temperature, music, and TV settings.
  • Serve as a first-responder in emergency situations and follow emergency protocols set by the LJCC.
  • Preform opening/closing procedures for fitness center.
  • Learn, understand, and communicate an up-to-date and accurate knowledge of all services offered by The J and the Wellness Department.

We’re seeking an energetic and organized group fitness coordinator to lead and grow our extensive group fitness program. This role is ideal for someone passionate about fitness, community
engagement, and team leadership.

You’ll play a key role in creating a welcoming, high-quality group fitness experience as you oversee instructors, develop programming, and help members reach their fitness goals.

  • Assist in hiring and developing group fitness instructors and substitutes

Les Mills Cycle/RPM instructors are responsible for leading and delivering group fitness instruction ranging in variety and level from aerobic activity, as directed in Les Mills programming. This includes developing and organizing choreography, movement sequencing and progression, cueing participants set up, safety, execution, and more.

  • Current fitness- or group fitness-related certification (e.g., Les Mills) and more as required

Compensation

We welcome enthusiastic trainers with a passion for helping others. 

Our dynamic fitness team is committed to promoting health and wellness for individuals of all ages. We are seeking personal trainers to work with both adults and youth (ages 8-15). While experience in youth fitness training is a plus, it is not a requirement. 

This is a 1099/independent contractor position offering flexibility to create your own schedule and enjoy free access to our state-of-the-art fitness facilities. 

Key responsibilities

  • Build strong, supportive relationships with members to create a welcoming fitness environment. 
  • Lead small group youth fitness programs with age-appropriate exercises (if qualified). 
  • Promote and sell personal training services and wellness programs. 
  • Collaborate with the fitness director on scheduling, record-keeping, and administrative tasks. 
  • Assist with fitness center operations and facility coverage as needed. 

Qualifications

  • National certification in personal training (e.g., NASM, ACE, ISSA, etc.). 
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required (discounted safety certifications available once hired). 
  • A degree in exercise science or related field is a plus but not required.
  • Experience in youth fitness training or sports coaching is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • At least one year of personal training or fitness programming experience is preferred. 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Independent contractor personal trainer insurance is required (insurance vendor recommendations available if needed). 

While we are particularly interested in trainers with experience in youth fitness training, this is not a requirement. All qualified trainers with a passion for fitness and helping others are encouraged to apply.
