The Daffodil Campaign: Remembering the Warsaw Uprising

April 19, 2023

The Daffodil Campaign is a public history project that seeks to educate about the history of the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising — the largest uprising by Jews during World War II. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the event, which lasted 27 days and was the first significant urban revolt in Europe against Nazi occupation.

The Alabama Holocaust Education Center is bringing the event to Birmingham for the first time this year. On Wednesday, April 19, everyone passing through the lobby at The J is invited to pin on and wear a paper daffodil in memory of the thousands who perished in the uprising.

The campaign was initiated by the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in 2013, and has since occurred annually in Warsaw and other cities around the world.
