Last week the LJCC Board of Directors suspended its search for a new director as Brooke Bowles steps into her new role as interim executive director. Brooke was named to the new position after the departure of Aimee Johnson last month.
“We’re really happy with Brooke’s work over the past year, and we’re excited to see her lead The J on an interim basis,” says board chair Hilton Berger. Brooke started at The J a year ago as membership director and head of The J’s newly formed development team, which together led to her being named associate executive director. The successfully simplified and more accessible membership model adopted in the spring happened under her direction, and her money-raising initiatives brought in more than $1 million through grants and various initiatives — including the inaugural J’la gala that was held in August.
“After our experiences of the past year, I am very optimistic about the future of The J,” Brooke says. “As we continue to rebuild after the pandemic, it’s become more clear than ever how important it is for people to have a safe and accepting space where they can socialize and stay fit. The case for that space being The J is only getting stronger.”
