With some 260 J Camp kids running, dancing, singing (and occasionally screaming), swimming, and fencing their way through The J this summer before heading back to school, you’d think we’d be looking forward to a more quiet fall.

But with nearly 230 kids once again filling the classrooms in the Cohn Early Childhood Learning Center for the new school year, The J is as energized as ever.

“It’s been so great getting to see all the parents and kids in their classrooms,” says Savelle Beacham, the school’s new assistant director. Although she’s new to the role, she began teaching at the Cohn ECLC as a substitute before going full time in 2021. She takes on her new role after having taught at two middle schools in South Korea as part of the English Program in Korea.

Not only was she thrilled to see some of her former students as they returned this week, but she’s happy to once again be working alongside her mother Stephanie and her two sisters.

The four Beachams along with the entire Cohn ECLC staff were diligent about preparing for the new year under the guidance of Director Jazmyne Harris. They cleaned, organized, and decorated their classrooms before completing two days of training on current childcare best practices.

“We’re well prepared, the kids are safe and happy, and the parents seem appreciative of our efforts,” Savelle says. “This is going to be another good year.”
