  • Showcase of art and Jewish values through eyes of local nonprofits
  • Cheese and wine will be served
  • RSVP

We invite members and non-members to join us at the Levite JCC on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. for our third annual Community Canvas exhibit opening. This year’s exhibit will include art created by 17 local nonprofit organizations, and the artists will be on hand to discuss their creations.

The event is free and open to the public (RSVP; non-LJCC members should be prepared to show photo ID at the door).

Launched in 2023, this signature program invites local nonprofit partners to reflect on a selected Jewish value and express how it resonates within their mission.

From generation to generation

This year’s theme is l’dor v’dor, a Hebrew phrase that is most often translated as “from generation to generation.” It speaks to the connection between our past, present, and future: a chain of memory, identity, values, and love carried forward through time. Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel beautifully captured this idea when he said, “What we need more than anything else is not textbooks but text-people.”

“To reflect on l’dor v’dor is to remember that we are part of something greater than ourselves,” says Zoe Weil, director of special projects within The J’s Office of Jewish Life. “We inherit stories, songs, recipes, traditions, and dreams from those who came before us. And in turn, we hold the responsibility and the privilege to nurture and pass them on, shaping a better future for the generations to come.”
