LJCC members are invited to our first community Havdalah ceremony of the year on Saturday, January 11 at 6:30-7 p.m., followed by Parents’ Night Out childcare 7-9 p.m.
Havdalah, which means separation in Hebrew, is the practice of separating the sanctity of the Sabbath and transitioning back into our week. This ceremony, which traditionally occurs on Saturday evenings, is an opportunity to reset your sights on the week ahead.
The ceremony’s rituals include drinking wine to symbolize the joy of Shabbat, lighting a braided candle to symbolize the community gathering, and smelling spices to symbolize the lingering sweetness of Shabbat.
“Please join us on January 11 to drink a little wine, nosh on some cheese, and celebrate the ending of Shabbat together,” says Shannon Brasovan, coordinator of Jewish programs here at The J. “If you’re a goal-setter like me (or at least trying to be one more often), Havdalah can be a wonderful way to regroup before the start of the secular work week,”
After the brief ceremony, LJCC members will be able to take advantage of our Parents’ Night Out program: two hours of childcare (7-9 p.m.) for just $10 per child.
Look for subsequent Havdalah + Parents’ Night Out events on February 15 and March 1.
