Refreshing fitness

“I’m hoping to really push a welcoming message that fitness is for everybody,” says Allison Crawford, The J’s new group exercise coordinator. And no — you don’t need to be able to do what Allison is doing in her photo to take full advantage of fitness at The J.

The J is pleased to introduce Allison Crawford, our new group exercise coordinator. A certified group exercise instructor and a certified personal trainer, she’s been teaching different types of fitness classes for some 17 years. 

“I’m really big on focusing on healthy relationships with exercise along with a positive body image,” she says. She even runs an Instagram account dedicated to the subject, called “Not Your Mama’s Body Image.”

“I’m hoping to really push a welcoming message that fitness is for everybody,” she says. “Right now I’m looking to bring more senior classes, mind/body classes, and evening classes. Look for those enhancements in the near future.”

Earlier this year we added 16 new Group Fitness classes to bring The J’s total to 24. Ranging from BodyPump to Zumba, our Group Fitness line-up is among the best in Birmingham.

Exercising in groups has long been a popular method to get fit. Studies show that working out with others can increase motivation, and the teamwork factor at The J can help push you harder than when you’re solo.
