J Camp has long tradition of building community using tons of fun

For more than 70 years, J Camp at the Levite JCC has been one of the most cherished summer experiences in Birmingham — a place where kids play hard, make friends, and grow in confidence surrounded by joy and ruach | spirit.

“Our goal is simple,” says Youth and Camps Director Noah Adams: “give kids a place to explore new interests, laugh with friends, and build memories that last long after summer ends.”

Under the leadership of Youth and Camps Director Noah Adams, J Camp isn’t just about keeping kids busy — it’s about creating a safe, spirited community where every camper feels welcomed and valued. “Our goal is simple,” says Noah, now preparing for his third summer at The J: “give kids a place to explore new interests, laugh with friends, and build memories that last long after summer ends.”

ACA accredited

Last year, J Camp earned accreditation from the American Camp Association (ACA) — a national mark of quality and safety that reflects excellence in staff training, health protocols, and overall camper experience. “Getting ACA accreditation was a team effort,” Noah explains. “And it shows parents that we take safety seriously while still delivering fun every day.”

This year’s campers can choose from a wide range of activities, from classic games and pool time to arts, sports, and off-site field trips. There’s also an exciting lineup of specialty camps that focus on chess, theater, fashion, LEGO, fencing, and more — allowing kids to dive deeper into what they love.

J Camp runs May 26–August 7, offering flexible week-by-week enrollment plus before- and after-camp care to fit busy family schedules. Spots are already filling quickly, so now is the perfect time to learn more and sign up.
