Question: What gives you accurate body composition analysis, can identify potential health risks, is non-invasive, tracks your progress while providing personalized recommendations… and is so quick that you won’t have time to reach for that year-old copy of Golf Digest?
Answer: The J’s InBody machine! And while it’s obviously not a substitute for a medical professional, the device has grown a devoted following among LJCC members who’ve been using it.
When he saw an InBody flyer back in January, LJCC member Jesse Bryson, 62, was intrigued enough to schedule his first measurement. He’s since become a fan.
Positive reinforcement
Jesse loves seeing real data about what’s going on with his body so he can plan accordingly. “Using a weight scale alone, for example, I might be discouraged in losing only two pounds — especially after focusing on fitness and diet for a couple of months,” he says. But a detailed InBody report showed Jesse that the two-pound weight loss is the result of his having lost five pounds of fat while gaining muscle.
Since muscle requires more calories to maintain than fat, the potential for continued weight loss has increased since Jesse now has to burn more calories daily in order to maintain the new muscle mass. “And as everyone knows, maintaining body fat is easy!” Jesse quips.

“People can get really hung up on the number they see on the scale, but it’s really only a portion of the full picture of your health,” says Heather Whittset, a member of The J’s Shalom Squad and a Fitness Floor attendant who also recently added the job title of InBody scan specialist.
“Those weight fluctuations you see could be fat, water, or muscle.” So how do you know which direction to go with your fitness goals? “A tool like InBody can help make sense of your workout and diet.”
Fit, strong, and flexible
Jesse credits The J with his feeling fitter, stronger, and more flexible than ever, and he’s enjoying rediscovering clothes that haven’t fit him for years. After kick-starting his progress, the InBody has been providing positive reinforcement on his wellness journey.
“Most people think that aging automatically means unavoidable decline,” he says. “But here at The J you see people in their 70s, 80s, and even 90s who show that it’s possible to remain fit and active at any age.” And now, alongside the Fitness Floor, pools, group fitness classes, and personal training, The J’s InBody scanner is one more useful tool to help with wellness at any age.
