Starting July 12, The J will remain open until 6 p.m. on Fridays.
The new hours will allow swimmers in the outdoor pool a little extra time to enjoy the summer sun, and the change will last for the duration of Daylight Savings Time. When Standard Time kicks back in on November 3 this year, Friday hours will change to closing at 5 p.m.
The 5 a.m. Friday opening time will remain constant all year.
The early Friday closing is in recognition of the weekly Jewish Shabbat holiday. The earlier 4:30 p.m. closing time had been implemented in response to staffing issues.
