Restructuring for growth

The Levite Jewish Community Center is growing. Our membership is on an upward trend, and that growing pool of members in turn needs more services. In addition, our varied program offerings have expanded. And of course this kind of growth means increased staffing.

“Being able to hire the people we need to help us manage our growth has been crucial to our ongoing success,” says The J’s Brooke Bowles. “But it didn’t take long to realize that we needed a new management structure.”

Beginning in February, the fresh reorganization will help maximize staff talents while providing more efficient services.

(L-R) Robert Scott, Shannon Brasovan, Brooke Bowles, Barbara Traweek, and Maureen Scardino look forward to guiding The J through 2025 and beyond.

New leadership team

“We have leaders who work tirelessly to maintain and improve our facilities and run our programs and services within budget,” explains Brooke, who has been named the LJCC’s chief executive officer as part of the new plan (her former title was executive director). In addition to fostering that leadership, she adds, the reorganization will allow The J’s talented staff to grow.

The newly named leadership team that will report to Brooke includes

  • Chief Financial Officer Maureen Scardino will continue in her role of overseeing the organization’s finances, human resources, and risk management.
  • Chief Programs Officer Barbara Traweek will continue to supervise the Cohn Early Childhood Learning Center and our camps program (which flourished last year under her new leadership), and will take on management of athletics and aquatics. Barbara was previously senior director of youth services and early education.
  • Chief Operations Officer Robert Scott will continue to oversee overall facility and pool maintenance and security while taking on responsibility for food services and event planning. Robert was previously the facilities director.
  • Chief Experience Officer Shannon Brasovan will take on supervision of membership services, the Office of Jewish Life, fitness offerings, and marketing. Shannon was previously coordinator of Jewish programs.

“I’m excited not only to elevate these four to a new level of management, but also for our talented staff members who will get to report to them,” Brooke says. “And I’m even more excited for how all this will make The J an even better place for our members.”
