Deep B’ham roots

Robert’s family roots date back to Birmingham’s earliest days and extend to Knesseth Israel, Temple Beth-El, and Temple Emanu-El — where he grew up and where Rabbi Milton Grafman played an important role in his life.

His 43-year medical career included a decade of weekly appearances on WBRC Channel 6 to dispense medical advice. Robert and his father also were once part of the group of owners of the Birmingham Barons baseball team that was responsible for bringing professional baseball back to Birmingham and Rickwood Field.

But perhaps most famously, Robert has served as the public address announcer for the University of Alabama “Million Dollar Band” for 34 years.

In addition to his upbringing and varied career, Margaret will ask Robert about raising a family, community involvement, the civil rights movement, and more.
