At the Levite Jewish Community Center, creating a welcoming, vibrant, and safe environment for our members and visitors is always our highest priority. We believe that an open, thriving community begins with peace of mind.
To help us continue upholding this commitment, we are proud to share that the LJCC was recently approved for a $190,000 grant from the federal Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP). Administered by the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA, the NSGP provides essential funding for facility hardening and physical security enhancements to nonprofit organizations that face heightened risks.
This milestone marks the fourth NSGP award the LJCC has secured since the 2021 grant year. Over the past several years, this consistent federal support has allowed our campus security operations to continually evolve with a focus on proactive and comprehensive preparedness.
To ensure every phase of this work is built on expert best practices, the upcoming grant activities are tied to a comprehensive security risk assessment conducted by Matt Moosebrugger with the Secure Community Network (SCN). Guided by SCN’s recommendations, this new funding will implement protective measures so our members, students, and guests can exercise, learn, and gather with confidence.
This federal funding also builds upon the vital support we received earlier this year through a $70,000 grant from the Birmingham Jewish Federation and Birmingham Jewish Foundation, dedicated to supporting professional on-site security personnel during all hours of operation.
Together, these investments allow us to continuously refine and elevate our campus security operations while preserving the warm, hospitable atmosphere that defines our JCC.
