
The J upped its Pilates game this week when it began offering one-on-one Pilates training. The sessions, which utilize reformer apparatus (along with wall units, the Cadillac, various chairs, and other equipment), will be available only to LJCC members (see rates below).
Director of Fitness Camari Princewill notes that many members who have thoroughly enjoyed The J’s mat Pilates classes have expressed interest in doing more. “We’re really excited to expand our pilates program to this next level,” he says.
Instructor Gisele “Gigi” McGraw was drawn to Pilates thanks to its efficiency and balance that focuses on building strength, stability, and stamina. “It’s a lifelong form of exercise no matter your age or level of fitness, or if you’re recovering from a health setback,” she says. “I love that Pilates is detailed and precise, and that it is keenly focused on the whole body of the individual.”
Gigi, who learned her craft while studying under instructors who had been taught by the late Joseph Pilates himself, further explains that Pilates can improve the functional conditioning and flexibility of your body as you move, work and play “whether your jam is golfing, alpine skiing, cycling, running, or whatever. It has personally improved how I do cardio strength training, weight lifting, spin classes, and all the winter and summer pursuits I enjoy.
“I truly enjoy teaching Pilates and being a lifelong student of the Classical Pilates Method.”
