The J needs you for Food Fest

The Jewish Food and Culture Fest won’t happen without volunteers: We’ll need about 200 of y’all helping out if we’re going to properly host some 2,000 of our closest friends and neighbors on May 18.

Volunteers have long been key to the Food Fest’s stellar success year after year. They prepare and serve our delicious food, serve as cashiers, and help in the children’s area and staff all other parts of the event.

This year’s volunteer effort for the May 18 event will kick off on April 27 with a crew making matzah balls for our much-lauded matzah ball soup. Food prep shifts range in length from just two to three hours — all in The J’s kitchen.

No experience necessary

Neither kitchen nor kosher experience is necessary, and we can pretty much guarantee that our volunteers will relish (get it??) the time spent with your crew and savor a sense of satisfaction for having made such an important contribution to The J — and to the community.

Volunteering for Food Fest is not only a great way to spend a few hours on behalf of your community, it’s a straight-up mitzvah. And more than a few of our volunteers have learned a new kitchen trick or two.

A classic menu

In addition to the soup, this year’s volunteers can choose to help make sweet and savory Jewish brisket, pickles, couscous, or the biscotti-like mandelbrot. And we’ll also be cooking up the oh-so-popular pomegranate chicken.
