‘Making Mensches’ theme marks Camp LJCC’s 70th summer

‘Goat yoga’ is one of many summer programs that can be found only at Camp LJCC.

Registration is now open for the ever-popular Camp LJCC, our series of summer camps that offers myriad opportunities for kids to play, explore, and experience life in an environment based on Jewish values and culture. This year’s theme is “Making Mensches,” which uses a favorite Yiddish word that translates into “making people of integrity and honor.”

Shravya Utlapalli, youth and camp director at The J, is excited to be kicking off the 70th year of Camp LJCC. “We’re still going strong because of the lasting foundation built by this community,” she says. “That’s why it’s especially fitting that this year we’re focusing on how hard we work to shape each generation of campers into mensches who are well-rounded community members and leaders.”

A seasoned camp manager, this is Utlapalli’s second summer season at The J. “I enjoy watching campers and counselors learn from each other,” she explains. “They have 10 weeks together, and both campers and counselors always leave camp changed for the better.”

Youth and Camp Director Shravya Utlapalli is looking forward to her second summer of camps at The J.

Open to all
The camp program is open to everyone and includes indoor and outdoor activities, singing, dancing, sports, swimming, STEM activities, and more — all within a positive and nurturing environment. The low camper-to-counselor ratio is especially important in allowing staff to customize daily activities to fit the interests of the campers in each group. In addition, this summer will feature more weeks of the popular Tennis Camp for the kids to enjoy.

As always, families who find the full cost of Camp LJCC too difficult to manage can reach out to or stop by the Membership Office to obtain a scholarship application. In addition, Camp LJCC vows to use every resource at its disposal to do its best to accommodate every camper.
