While Mountain Brook’s O’Neal Library closes for extensive renovations, we are pleased to be able to temporarily host a number of library programs here at The J.
All are encouraged to sign up for the following book discussions by the library’s storied “The Bookies” group (additional dates forthcoming):
- Tuesday, June 9, 10-11:30 a.m. The Correspondent by Virginia Evans — a debut novel that explores the life, regrets, and reflections of Sybil Van Antwerp through her letters and emails over a decade. Sign up to attend.
- Tuesday, July 14, 10-11:30 a.m. Family of Spies by Christine Kuehn — a propulsive, never-before-told story of one family’s shocking involvement as Nazi and Japanese spies during WWII and the pivotal role they played in the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Sign up to attend.
- Tuesday, August 11, 10-11:30 a.m. Vigil by George Saunders — a novel that unfolds over a single charged night as a spirit tasked with easing souls into the afterlife descends into the ornate home of a dying oil titan. Sign up to attend.
In addition…
- On Thursday, June 25, 3-5 p.m., teens in grades 7-12 are invited to enjoy Dino Movie Night while noshing on Dino Nuggets.
- The library also will offer a three-week sewing course (July 8, 15, and 22, 4-5:30 p.m.) that will teach adults the basic skills required to use a sewing machine and even tackle a beginner sewing project. Registration opens June 8.
- And then once a month on Tuesdays, 6:30-8 p.m., check out Books & Beyond to more generally discuss topics rather than specific books. Simply pick any book, audiobook, or movie that you’d like to try within the month’s topic and come prepared to talk about it.
